Venue
The Sun City Convention and Exhibition Centre has been chosen for its sophisticated conference infrastructure, as well as its rural and scenic African setting. Sun City is able to provide an excellent combination of presentation venues, exhibition spaces, and delegate accommodation available in various price classes and within walking distance of the conference venue. The Pilanesberg National Park surrounds the venue, and provides a convenient and relevant setting for field trips, live fire and aerial demonstrations.
Sun City is located in South Africa’s North West Province and is only 2 hours drive from Johannesburg, the main economic hub of South Africa. Connecting passenger and freight flights between O.R. Tambo International (Johannesburg) and Pilanesberg Airport can be arranged. The flight time between these two destinations is about 45 minutes. An excellent surfaced road system caters for delegates who wish to travel by luxury coach or hired car from Johannesburg to Sun City, or driving in from other parts of South Africa or neighbouring African countries.
The venue also provides real income generating opportunities for surrounding poor communities, which supports the ILC’s commitment to the Millennium Development Goals, the Hyogo Framework for Action and the pro-poor developmental principles of the conference organisers. The conference provides an opportunity for surrounding communities to participate by providing evening entertainment as well as art and craft displays. Communities will also participate as extra hands employed by Sun City in the lead up to and during the conference.
The climate features warm temperatures typical of tropical latitudes, with summer rainfall and dry winters. The surrounding area consists of savannah and grassland vegetation types and has a winter fire cycle.

Accommodation
Accommodation is not booked through the conference organisers but must be arranged directly through Sun City. Discounted accommodation rates are available for conference delegates and can be claimed by quoting the conference registration booking code when making bookings through Sun City.
Accommodation within Sun City is available in 3 different price categories.
Other accommodation options just outside the venue complex include safari lodges in the Pilanesberg National Park - delegates would need to self-drive or arrange transport to and from Sun City each day. Budget accommodation is available (with a shuttle service) 10km from Sun City. However, staying on site will save time, transport costs, provide a safe environment and enable after-hour meetings and exchanges.
