Fieldtrip to the Pilanesberg National Park (incl. live prescribed burn)
The Pilanesberg National Park field day will include a live prescribed burn in the African Bush, which serves the park´s management objectives. Conference delegates will get transport to the park, visit the fire ecologists, the IC post, observe some Aerial Ignition and experience fire in Big 5 country. The afternoon will take us to the Pilanesberg Airfield for an Aerial Firefighting Demonstration, including some other equipment demonstrations and will end with the optional Boma Braai watching the African sunset.The field day participation is limited due to transport capacity issues. Early Bird registration will ensure you do not miss this exciting African fire day!
Boma Barbeque
Enjoy a taste of the African Bush! This outdoor barbeque, set in the true African bushveld, will include traditional African food. The Boma Barbeque takes place on Wednesday evening after the Pilansberg Field Trip.
Pre-Conference Firewise Communities Workshop
This workshop is for people who have an interest in creating Firewise Communities within wildland fire-prone landscapes. The course, which was developed in the USA and adapted for southern Africa, will lead participants through ways to improve safety at the wildland/urban interface, integrate Firewise concepts into community and disaster mitigation planning and give examples of how to facilitate and nurture local partnerships for improved community decision making. It is aimed at Fire Protection Officers, forestry personnel, planners, and conservancy or community leaders. Presented jointly by USA and SA trainers as a “hands-on” course under the SAUSA plan, it is an internationally accredited course and participants successfully completing the workshop will be qualified to train other groups in their area, using the course materials supplied.
Scientific Pre & Post Conference Tour to the Kruger National Park
The legendary Kruger National Park (KNP) in South Africa is a 2 million hectare savanna conservation wilderness area that showcases some of Africa’s unique biodiversity and landscapes. KNP is home to an impressive number of species: 507 species of birds, 336 trees, 147 mammals, 114 reptiles, 49 fish and 34 amphibians. The park today not only protects wildlife (flora and fauna) but is also the leader and hub of key scientific research and demonstrates an active role in management of the area based on scientific outcomes. Cancellation and Refund Policy
The conference managers must be notified in writing of any cancellations.
- Before 20 March 2010 will incur an €100.00 cancellation fee.
- After 20 March and before 13 May 2010 will receive a 50% refund of fees paid.
- After 15 March 2011 there will be no refund.

Visa Requirements
Any queries relating to visas are handled by the South African missions or representative office in your country or the nearest one situated to you. Visas are considered by the South African missions abroad and must be affixed in the applicants' passports before departing to the RSA. Visas are not issued on arrival at South African ports of entry. Applicants arriving without visas will be refused entry into the RSA and placed on return flights in terms of legislation.
